January 10th, 2019 by

If you’re curious as to why your Honda Civic Engine Oil Indicator percent is low even after changing the oil, you may need to reset the Honda civic oil light. Not sure where to start? We have you covered! Take the trip from Union to the VIP Honda service center to learn more or so we can do it for you!

Steps to Resetting Oil Life

The following are steps to take if you want to reset the Engine Oil Indicator:

  1. Turn on the ignition (one position before starting the engine).
  2. Using the left-hand-side controls on the steering wheel, press Menu and look at the menu screen.
  3. Use (+) to choose Vehicle Information, then hit the SOURCE button.
  4. Press SOURCE once more to visit the Maintenance screen. You’ll see the engine oil life on the i-MID (intelligent Multi-Information Display).
  5. Use the (-) to choose Yes, then press SOURCE.
  6. Turn off the ignition, then start the engine to make sure the reset worked.

Alternatively, you can stop by VIP Honda or schedule a service appointment so our certified technicians do it for you as part of your regular Honda oil change. South Plainfield drivers can schedule Honda oil change services online.

What Affects Oil Life?

There are several factors that can affect your oil life. The Honda Maintenance Minder System controls the Engine Oil Indicator. However, there are other factors that can contribute. Engine load, temperature, number of miles traveled, how often you travel, and car speed can all change how regularly you need a new oil change. If your Honda Civic oil light appears, it’s time to make a trip to VIP Honda!
